The Times They Are A Changin
Tis the season and things have been busy. Since we spoke last, lots has happened. First, let's start with the weekend of the 17th and 18th. After spending the week in Canada, it was nice to finally be back in the US for the weekend. Canadians may say they are American (technically, North Americans), but it just isn't the same.
Over the weekend (17th and 18th), I ran the Ho Ho Ho run 5K on Saturday and participated in the 1st Annual Zahn's Potato Latkes eating contest. The 5K was right in Bethpage and marks a return to races after several weeks of taking it easy. Regarding getting a trophy, there's always next year. Regarding finishing, I couldn't be happier to have finished. The Eating Contest, though, was a major accomplishment. I came in 4th, eating 15 6/8s potato Latkes in 8 minutes. I missed third by a mere 1/8 of a pancake. The three winners are world ranked eaters, and the head of the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters (Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman) said he was very impressed. Last week (19th through 24th), consisted of saying goodbye to Canada and the friends made there and returning to work. I think we did a good job there and we were recognized from many of the US management, including the CEO (I have the e-mail from him to prove it). It is definitely good to be back, but, secretly, I miss it a bit. Back at work, I gave out my cards and received some gifts. Leave it to the holidays to find out that you are really liked and not merely tolerated.
This week has flown by with the holiday on Sunday and the day off on Monday. I ended up, this Christmas, with a new toaster, coffeemaker, towels, money, and gift certificates to my favorite store (Best Buy). I love giving presents and finally got around to buying the gifts for people. Yesterday, we received a free lunch sponsored by my boss' boss' boss (The Director of the Finance Dept.) My friends at work (Monica, Michelle, and Michelle) casually mentioned to her that I run. She is very big into running and said I should run with her and someone else in the company at 5:30AM. If she's serious, this could be my in to the big time. The day ended with watching "A Requiem for a Dream" with Bill. Damn, that is one messed up movie. Well, anyway, in store with the rest of the week and weekend is lunch with the guys I went to Canada with, one more day of work, and New Year's Eve/Day. I've got plans for New Year's so I'm syked. Please forgive any typos in this entry. I don't have the patience to proofread. To everyone who reads and doesn't read, Happy Holidays, whatever you celebrate. Speak to you next year.
